If you want to do something, don’t let anyone say that you can’t do it
September 30, 2007For this Sunday's Youth Fellowship at our church, we watched the movie "Pursuit for Happyness". The story was all about a man named Chris Gardner (played by Will Smith) who just wants to be happy. He was a salesman. He was selling a some kind of an apparatus for bones which, the doctors said, was unnecessary and too much expensive. Because of this, it was so hard for him to earn money. This situation of Chris made his wife so unhappy. Well, simply because it was only her wife who was earning for their family. To make the 2 hr. story short, trials came to Chris' life..his wife left him, the owner of their apartment made him and his 5 yr. old son leave, he got some of the apparatus robbed, he was thrown into jail, etc. But, the good thing with Chris was that he never gave up. For his son, he always finds a way for them to find a place to stay over for the night and to eat right. Well, with his perseverance, he became a stockbroker and is now earning millions.
(Sorry kung bitin yung kwento ha..panoorin niyo na lang..hehehe..)
The thing that struck me the most in that movie was what he said to his son - that if he wants to do something, don't let ANYONE tell him that he can't do it, even Chris Gardner, his father himself.
Always remember that you are not a failure.
Yahoo! opens up its APIs for the UPDCS
September 29, 2007On the 10th of October, the UP Department of Computer Science, in partnership with Yahoo! will be holding the "Yahoo! Mini-Hack Event". Yahoo! will 'officially' open up their APIs on October 1 just for the UPDCS. Here, we will get the chance to develop our own application and embed it to one of the web applications of Yahoo! like Yahoo! Mail, Yahoo! Messenger, Flickr, etc. Then on the 10th, Yahoo! Vice President for Product Strategy, Mr. Bradley Horowitz, will come over to our department to award the best application that has been created and probably use it.
Haay..it's really a privilege for us, UPDCS students, to get this opportunity, especially from a prestigious company like Yahoo!. Imagine, if you win the contest, your web application will be seen and be used by millions of people! And do you know that this is the first time that Yahoo! will be holding this kind of event in the Philippines? And they chose the UPDCS for this first-ever event! Super opportunity talaga so let us not waste it. Okie?
Time First!
September 26, 2007Waaahh!!! Hope I can make ALL the deadlines disappear!..With all the requirements that I have to pass, the MPs that I have to make, the exams that will soon come, all I can say is waaaaahhhh!!!
When I looked at the calendar of activities (or suffering perhaps) that Jen made for us (ni Marie), I can't help but be emotional. As in emotional ha, kasi halo-halong emotions. A part of me is syempre uber sad about it because super tired na. Some part is fearful because I might not finish all those requirements in time. But then, a part of me is some what excited because the sem is near to its end (this one's just to appease myself). Anyway, here is the acad part of my schedule for the remaining days of this semester and a large part of the semestrial break:
September 28 (this friday): CS 150 MP Part 1 Deadline (Thank God and Mam Chris for this!)
October 1: EEE 8 Project Deadline
October 2: CS 140 2nd Exam (and Jen's birthday! Hi jen!)
October 5: EEE 8 Probset Deadline
October 6: EEE 8 3rd Exam
October 7: CS 135 MEs Deadline (as in 24 Problems to solve ha)
October 10: CS 150 MP Part 2 Deadline & Stat 130 Exam (Yen's bday!)
October 15: Stat 130 MP Deadline
October 15 - 19: Super preparation for ACM-ICPC Contest
October 20: ACM-ICPC Contest Proper (Galingan natin Jen!)
October 24: CS 135 Exam
Waahh talaga! Final exams for some subjects are not yet listed here. Super dreadful days are coming..huhuhuhu.. Although I'm still happy and super thankful that I have Marie and Jen in this endeavor.
Haay..I didn't imagine myself being this busy. But, as my mom said, maybe God is just preparing me for a tough future. Well, it's too late to give up so I think I have no choice but to face this test. I just have to cling onto God's promise that I just have to do my best and, surely, He'll do the rest.
You have to see this!
September 23, 2007Wow, my first ever blog! Well, I am some kind of excited but also worried because, knowing myself, I know that I cannot maintain things, even a blog..Hehehe..
Anyway, as I was browsing the net to see on what I could put on my first ever post, a question suddenly hopped into my mind…"Ano nga ba yung 7 wonders of the world?" (At bakit naman ito yung napunta sa isip ko? Well, di ko rin alam kaya wag niyo nang tanungin.) So hoping to find an answer to my weird question, I went to Google and typed '7 Wonders of the World.' Wank..As usual, many topics about it lined up into the page and I now don't know what to choose. Kamusta naman, meron pa palang 7 Natural Wonders, 7 Ancient Wonders, 7 Man-made Wonders at marami pang iba. Well, I chose the 7 Natural Wonders. Unfortunately, as I browsed through all the sites related to it, I was surprised to find out that there weren't really an official list of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World because since there were so many 'Natural Wonders' and each person has his/her perspective on looking at things, scientists weren't able to come up with a final list of the 7 Natural Wonders. There were so many Natural Wonders to choose from, but below is my own list of the 7 Natural Wonders of this World. Hope you'll like them too..
This is the Angel Falls. It is the highest falls in the world. It is 3 Eiffel Towers high. Whoa!
